Thursday's Three- Views from my Garden

My absolute favorite thing about summer is having a vegetable garden. Nothing compares to picking fresh vegetables right off the vines and for some reason, they always seem to taste better when you grow them yourself. These are scenes from my garden this morning.

The start of a beefsteak tomato

The promise of zucchinis

The lovely purple flower before an eggplant shows up

My garden is freshly planted but from the looks of things it's(hopefully) going to be a good crop this year

Recipe Monday-Hunter's Chicken Cacciatore

Remember a few weeks ago I went to Teresa from the Real Housewives of New Jersey's book signing? Well this is the first recipe I tried from her cookbook,Fabulicious!. It was pretty easy to make and my whole family liked it.Even my super picky eater!

Ingredients-

2 Tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
6 Skinless chicken  thighs(I used breasts) on the bone(I used boneless) aprrox. 1 1/2 pounds
10 ounces white mushrooms,sliced
1 medium onion,sliced
1 red bell pepper, seeded and sliced into 1/2-inch strips
2 garlic cloves,minced
1 cup red wine( I used 1/2 cup-drank the other half)
2 cups marinara tomato sauce
2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 medium zucchini,cut into 1/2-inch dice
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
salt & pepper to taste
Polenta( I served over linguine)

1.Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a dutch oven or flameproof casserole over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook, turning occasionally, until browned, about 6 minutes. Transfer chicken to plate.

2. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the pan and heat over medium heat. Add the mushrooms, onion , red peppers, and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables soften, after 6 minutes.

3. Pour the wine in your mouth in the pan and bring to a boil. Stir in the tomato sauce, oregano and red pepper flakes. Return the chicken to the pan and bring sauce to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for 1 hour. Add the zucchini. Continue cooking until meat is very tender about 15 min. more During the last 10 minutes add the basil.

4. Transfer the chicken to a cutting board. Cut into bite sized chucks discards the bones and return meat to the sauce. Season with salt and pepper.Serve hot over pasta or polenta.Garnish with basil if you'd like. Makes 4-6 servings

Super easy-super delicious!

My Blog Makeover

Well if you been a follower of my blog for more than 2 days you can see that I got my makeover. So what do you think? I love the softer colors and the less busyness(is that a word?) of the background. I always found the background to be distracting and I'm the one who picked it out!  I also like the less cutesie banner. For those who don't remember this is what it used to look like:

I really think this new design is more me-hope you like it too!

Thursday's Three

Here's my 3 favorite DIY redos that I found this week

Drab to Fab stunning dresser from Mandi at Vintage Revivals

Creative transformation of a gun cabinet to a hall tree from Ericka at Rose Colored Glasses

Gorgeous chair redo from Sibylle at Funkytime

Love Love Love all of them!

I'm Getting A Make Over!

Not me personally although I could really use one(Clinton Kelly can you hear me?) but my blog. As much as I loved this background and  header when I started this blog I feel it's time to clean it up. No more busy patterns and I went with a lighter color scheme. I also changed my tagline. You'll just have to come back and see it in a few days....

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream Review & Giveaway-CLOSED

Now that it's officially sandals and flip-flop season I knew it was time to get my feet back in presentable shape. I get super-dry skin and for some reason my poor feet suffer the worse.

I recently received a sample of First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair and figured I'd give it a try on my feet. Well, I'm in love!

This cream was super creamy-not at all greasy. It's thick & rich so just a little goes a really long way. I was using a small packet to test it and I was able to use it for days before running out. My feet were severely dry and cracking(gross right?) and after a week they look and feel wonderful. Not only does it help severely dry skin but it also helps atopic dermatitis, irritant eczema, allergic eczema, and keratosis pilaris.

It's made with  colloidal oatmeal,  which is the only FDA-approved, OTC ingredient for eczema. Even better than that is what it doesn't contain:  Parabens,Sulfates,Synthetic fragrances,Synthetic dyes,Phthalates

I'm now hooked on the cream and I know once you try it you will be too!

I'm giving away to one lucky reader their own tube of First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

Book Signing with Teresa Guidice

I've made it clear in numerous posts over the years that I absolutely love the Real Housewives shows with New Jersey being my favorite out of all of them. So when I heard the Teresa Guidice was going to be having a book signing of her new cookbook  Fabulicious! not far from my home I had I go!

My best friend Linda, her daughter and I got there approx.1 hour before the signing and waited  2 hours before we got to her. I thought I would be able to take a picture with her to show you all but was told that the store clerk would take a picture of you when her when she was signing your book.

Here is the picture with me
(note to self-never wear that shirt again it makes you look pregnant)

Teresa looked great but the only reason I knew it was me was the photo was in my camera at the end of the night. So I didn't get the photo I wanted but I did get 2 "Nice to meet cha" & shook her hand in the 2.2 seconds I was at the table. She looked lovely and so tiny!

I was able to get the camera back and turn around in enough time to get this picture of Christina,Linda's daughter

You can almost see her face!
Christina got a "hi how are ya?" from Teresa

Linda didn't go up to meet her.

So now I have an cookbook actually autographed to me from Teresa Guidice

At least I think that is what it says.It could also say "don't ever wear that shirt again-it makes you look pregnant"
Hard to say...

BTW- the cookbook is really good. The recipes are simple to follow and just sound delicious.I can't wait to start making some.

Thursday's Three

These are three things I am loving in a big way this week

I usually don't wear nail polish because the adhesive I use on my bows just takes it right off but when I got this color in a sampler box I had to try it. I absolutely love it. The color is a pale gray with a glossy finish. I put it on a week ago and have not had to touch it up once. I also love that Zoya nail polish is  free of toluene, formaldehyde, DBP (phthalates) and camphor.

Here's what my hand looked this morning-day 8-after scrubbing my house with no gloves. That's not a chip on the ring finger nail- it's a reflection.
Please don't judge me by my old-lady hands

I'm not a big fan of shoes.Period. I'm much happier walking around barefoot but of course there are times when I just can't do that. So while shopping for crocs online for Sophia I came across these shoes. They were on sale for $14.99 so I figured I would give them a try.Worse case scenario I hate and send them back.
Well I love them!
They are a very cute ballet-style sling back with cut outs on the toes. I originally bought them in black and liked them so much I bought a second pair in silver.
We're planning a trip to Disney in August and I planning on bringing both pairs with me.
They're comfortable and fashionable-what more could I want?

I cannot get enough of this album(are they still called albums?) Her voice is just hauntingly soulful. Each song is better than the last.
My favorite track is her remake of The Cure's Lovesong. Here she is singing it on Letterman

This post is strictly my personal opinion. I have in no way been compensated by

the above mentioned companies or been given any products to test by them.
