Holiday Card

Well, it's that time of year again. What do you think of this year's Christmas card?
Can you believe how big the girls have gotten? Believe it or not this picture isn't even posed. I was taking pictures of them on an unusually warm day a few ago for the card when Soph just dropped her head on her sister's shoulder and I knew I had it. If I tried to pose them like this it would have never worked

Remember a couple of months ago I hosted a giveaway from Elonka Nichole Limited? It was such a huge success that we decided to do it again!

We were hoping this

But thanks to Hurricane Irene(that bitch) It looks like we'll be dealing with this instead

The girls and I are heading out to Borders now to pick over whatever is left so we'll have activities to keep us from losing our minds and/or killing each other when we are sitting in the hotel room .I guess that's what you get when you plan a vacation to Florida in August!

Anyway, enjoy the rest of your summer!

Big Hugs!

Friday Fabulous Find- Flip Flop Wines

Recently I had the opportunity to review 3 wines a Pinot Noir, a Riesling and a Pinot Grigio from FlipFlop Wines. Before I tell you about the wines I want to tell you a little about what I like about the company.
Founded in 2009 by Vinter David Georges, Flip Flop Wines offers delicious wines for people of all economic levels. At $7.00 a bottle their wines are in-expensive not cheap. One of the things I like most about this company is their philosophy of giving back to the community. Currently Flip Flip Wines has partnered with Soles4Souls . For every bottle purchased a pair of flip flops will be donated to a person in need. How great is that?

The first bottle I tested was the Pinot Noir.

Described as a medium-bodied with bright cherry, sweet spice and a supple, velvety finish, Full of hints of cola aroma and hints of vanilla.Between dry & medium dry.

Loved this wine! I'm a red wine gal so I was very eager to try one out. It was definitely dry but not too much. Subtle spice flavoring that I just could not put my finger on and a smooth lingering finish. I served this with chicken cacciatore and I actually used a cup of it in the recipe! Out of the 3 wines I received this was my favorite.

Next is The Pinot Grigio

Describe as light-bodied, refreshing with tropical citrus, ripe pear, and a zesty clean finish .Between medium dry and medium sweet.

This description is just perfect for this wine. You can definitely taste the pear and this has a little kick on the way down. Just the right amount of sweetness with crisp finish.

Lastly was the Riesling.

Described as a medium bodied, complex with peach, apricot and melon which leads to a satisfying smooth finish.

I'm not a fan of sweet wines so this wine was the one I was least eager to try  but I can honestly say I really liked this wine.Sweet- definitely- but not so much that you couldn't enjoy the melody of flavors . Smooth finish with just the smallest aftertaste.

All in all I enjoyed these wines They are serious enough to be respected,  but in-expensive enough to never be pretentious.

In case you don't want to take my word for it, Wine Enthusiast Magazine just awarded 4 flipflop wines a "Best Buy" in the June issue, the FlipFlop Moscato received a "Double Gold"  at The San Francisco International Wine Competition & finally, "Real Simple" just selected flipflop Pinot Grigio as one of 10 summer whites and roses.

How's that for accolades!

Elonka Nichole Review & Giveaway!~CLOSED~

I don't know about you but I was never a fan of diaper bags. Not that they didn't have their use but I always hated the style and design of them. I never understood why they always came in designs with little cartoon characters, cute little bunnies and Easter egg colors. Not at all my style.I realize it is product for baby supplies but babies didn't have to carry them around! I ended up using a black backpack for both my girls.

Now when I was contacted by Elonka from ElonkaNichole Designs  about doing a review and giveaway I took pause because 1. No longer have little ones and 2. my lack of enthusiasm for the product. I took a look at her site anyway and boy was I surprised.! Nothing and I mean nothing about her designs scream "diaperbag". Her messenger style bags are perfect to use as not only a diaperbag but also a bookbag an overnight bag,or just a great tote.
Elonka offered me a bag to try in any of the 8 different 100 % cotton patterns they offer and Sophia chose the pink and white.Machine washable Retails for $75.00

This terrific bag has pocket, pocket and more pockets!

Inside there are 4 big elastic pockets, 2 on the outsides and one large pocket across the back.
To test out how much it could hold I packed it for a day at a local amusement park.
I was able to fit my wallet,2 small cometic bags, my big camera(which fit perfectly in one of the inside pockets) my baseball cap, and a hairbrush. It still had plenty of room for more. On the outside pockets I put my sunglasses and a bottle of suntan lotion.

The straps are soft but strong and were just the right length for me to wear across my body comfortably.
Sophia will be using this as a schoolbag this year and it will easily hold all her supplies.

We also tested the Monster Mini

This is quite possibly the softest blanket I've ever felt. This huge blanket (5x4) is made with this incredible
minky chenille fabric that just invites you to snuggle in. This color combination of sage and hot pink is the same colors as Sophia's room so she claimed this too and her sister graciously let her. She is so in love with the blanket that she actually walks around with it draped over her shoulders like a bathrobe. Available in 29 beautiful color combinations.Retails for $60.00

So you too can own these great items ElonkaNicole Designs is sponsoring a giveaway for you to win BOTH your own messenger bag and Original Mimi! You pick your own designs for both items
This prize has a value of $110.00!

Please wait for the Rafflecopter widget to load and good luck!

Friday Fab Find- Activate Water

Recently I had the opportunity to try out 2 different types of water from the Activate Line. Before I tell you about the flavors I sampled let me tell you a little about the brand itself.
The market is just swamped with vitamin & mineral enriched waters so why would we possibly need another? I'll tell you why. Vitamins and minerals lose their potency when sitting in water. I didn't know that. So while all the other brands are slowly losing strength, Activate doesn't. Why you ask? Because Activate stores it's ingredients in its cap to be released into  this water with a simple twist & shake when you are ready to drink it. How simple is that!

The first flavor I tested was the Lemon Lime from the Energy Line. This water has 100% of 3 essential vitamins and natural caffeine to that little extra boost.Naturally sweetened with Strevia & also contains Goji Berry, Yerba Mate and Vitamin B complex. 0 calories and 0 sugars. I loved the flavor with the  little lime kick at the end.
The second flavor I tried was the Raspberry Citrus. Normally I'm not a fan of berry flavors but I really loved this. This flavor is from the Workout line and is jam packed with electrolytes, 480% RDI Vitamin C, and essential amino acids. I drank this during a very hot day when I was doing heavy duty cleaning.I honestly felt better after drinking this. It's refreshing and extremely thirst quenching.

All in all I can say that I really enjoyed this water and I look forward to trying the other 8 flavors from the Activate line especially the Lulo Pear and Passion Fruit

Friday Fab Find-Hontest Tea Review

Hot enough for ya?  Being that most of the country feels like it's sitting on the  face of the sun I figured today was a good day to post my review on a refreshing drink.

I recently had the opportunity to review 2 different products from the Honest Tea company. I've made no secret to the fact the I am a huge tea drinker so I was thrilled that one of the samples I received was the Half & Half- half ice tea half lemonade. It has a very unique taste, not quite ice tea not lemonade but all together delicious! Super refreshing and at only 48 calories a serving( bottle is 2 servings) it's something I won't feel guilty indulging myself with.Best yet all the ingredients are organic and fair trade certified

The second drink I sampled was the Zero Calorie Classic Lemonade. Zero Calories! Nothing about this drink taste diet. Just sweet enough with the tangy lemon bite at the finish. The secret to the no-calorie sweetness is Stevia. Like the tea all the ingredients are organic and fair trade certified.

I absolutely loved the Honest Tea I sampled and can't wait to try the other 35+ great flavors they offer.

Available in stores nationwide.

Thursday's Three-Summer Goals

I know that summer is halfway over but I figured if I listed my goals I would be motivated to complete them.

1. Tone Tone Tone

I'm actually fine with my weight but not with my shape. My body is what I like to call "skinny fat". Meaning my weight is low but I still have too many wiggly bits. I want to tone my arms so they stop moving when I do,ditch my unloved handles and pick my butt up so it's stops creeping down the back of my thighs.

2. Finish my DIY projects

I love DIY projects-as you can see in my tag tag line- but finding the time to finish them is something else. I have an adorable chair that I bought at a yard sale that I started to strip last year and never finished. My front door was painted black but needs a second coat and I need to apply the vinyl lettering I bought for it. That is just 2 of the many things I still want to complete.

3. Work Less
Having your own business can be both a blessing and a curse. The blessing is I work from home, can make my own hours,I'm my own boss etc. The curse is I work from home, can make my own hours,I'm my own boss.
Apparently I'm a lousy boss- I make myself I stay on the computer doing god what knows while I should be outside enjoy the weather, hanging with the girls or reconnecting with friends. Summer is short-I need to enjoy it more and cut back on my computer time.

Pretty simple goals- I'll let you know how I do

Slap Wear Watch Review & Discount Code

If you were a kid in the late 80's you will remember the slap bracelet fad. Well guess what! Not only are they back but now they are available as fabulous watches! I was recently fortunate to review these watches from  So~ mine Slapwear. I received 2 watches and I love them. I wanted a white watch for the summer and the watch I received was perfect.

I have very skinny wrists and often have a hard time finds watches that fit comfortably and don't slip down onto my hand. Not a problem with this- it's made with a silicone band which securely wraps around your wrist-no slipping!
I'm pretty hard and my watches and this watch can take a beating. I got it very dirty gardening and it cleaned up to like new with just soap and water.

One of the features I liked the best is you can interchange the faces. Besides the white watch with also reviewed a green watch. Simply pop of the face and pop it into a different band and you have a completely different look

Some of the other watch features are
  • Available in 8 vivid fashion colors
  • One size fits all
  • Stainless steel back
  • Replaceable button battery
  • Limited one-year battery
  • nice wide band measures 11"Lx 1.125"W
  • 1" diameter face

My SlapWear was nice enough to set up a discount code for my readers! Use code BlogS7711 for 20% off your order. Watches are $19.99 so with discount you can get a watch for only  $15.99  and shipping is free!

I'm using the code myself so the girls and I will be getting more of these in darker colors to take us through the fall.

Disclaimer: I was given a 2 watches to review & was not conpensated in any other way. My opinions are stickly my own and have in no way been influenced.

Well It's finally happened...I'm the parent of a teenager!

Today is Gabriella's birthday. Her 13th birthday. She's officially a teenage. How did this happen?

Wasn't it  just yesterday this was her?

I can't believe how fast it went from her needing my for everything to getting annoyed at me for trying to help.Watching her transform from an adorable little girl to the most extraordinary young woman  has been such a blessing. As much as I complain that my girls are growing up too fast,  I can't wait (well maybe I can wait a little) to see what this new chapter in our lives will bring.

Happy Birthday Gabriella
I love you so much & I'm so proud of the young lady you are becoming

Must See Summer Movie-Monte Carlo

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Monte Carlo. All opinions are 100% mine.

As a mom to 2 girls ages nearly 10 and  thisclose to 13 agreeing  on a movie to see together is not always an easy task. Either I don’t feel the movie they selected is  age-appropriate or they feel my selection is too young for them. Imagine how happy we were when we saw the preview for Monte Carlo starring the absolutely adorable  and extremely popular Selena Gomez.

Grace (Selena Gomez) is an ordinary girl who becomes accidental heiress when a summer trip to Paris turns into the fantasy of a lifetime. One a dream vacation, Grace, along with her best friend and step-sister, discover that the greatest adventure is finding out who they really are.

Take a peak at the preview yourself

Monte Carlo

Finally a movie that we can go out and enjoy together! This light-hearted romantic comedy gives the very positive message of being true to yourself- a message I ‘m always trying to instill in my daughters.

Monte Carlo also stars Katie Cassidy, Leighton Meester ( both from Gossip Girl)  Cory Monteith (from Glee) & Andie MacDowell who I very happy to see back on the screen.

Monte Carlo is now playing  in theaters  but don’t wait to get your tickets. You can order them right now online from Fandango

Be sure to check out Facebook page too.

I’m sure my girls and I will be enjoying Monte Carlo and I’m sure you will too

Thursday's Three- Views from my Garden

My absolute favorite thing about summer is having a vegetable garden. Nothing compares to picking fresh vegetables right off the vines and for some reason, they always seem to taste better when you grow them yourself. These are scenes from my garden this morning.

The start of a beefsteak tomato

The promise of zucchinis

The lovely purple flower before an eggplant shows up

My garden is freshly planted but from the looks of things it's(hopefully) going to be a good crop this year

Remember a few weeks ago I went to Teresa from the Real Housewives of New Jersey's book signing? Well this is the first recipe I tried from her cookbook,Fabulicious!. It was pretty easy to make and my whole family liked it.Even my super picky eater!

2 Tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
6 Skinless chicken  thighs(I used breasts) on the bone(I used boneless) aprrox. 1 1/2 pounds
10 ounces white mushrooms,sliced
1 medium onion,sliced
1 red bell pepper, seeded and sliced into 1/2-inch strips
2 garlic cloves,minced
1 cup red wine( I used 1/2 cup-drank the other half)
2 cups marinara tomato sauce
2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 medium zucchini,cut into 1/2-inch dice
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
salt & pepper to taste
Polenta( I served over linguine)

1.Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a dutch oven or flameproof casserole over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook, turning occasionally, until browned, about 6 minutes. Transfer chicken to plate.

2. Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the pan and heat over medium heat. Add the mushrooms, onion , red peppers, and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables soften, after 6 minutes.

3. Pour the wine in your mouth in the pan and bring to a boil. Stir in the tomato sauce, oregano and red pepper flakes. Return the chicken to the pan and bring sauce to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for 1 hour. Add the zucchini. Continue cooking until meat is very tender about 15 min. more During the last 10 minutes add the basil.

4. Transfer the chicken to a cutting board. Cut into bite sized chucks discards the bones and return meat to the sauce. Season with salt and pepper.Serve hot over pasta or polenta.Garnish with basil if you'd like. Makes 4-6 servings

Super easy-super delicious!

My Blog Makeover

Well if you been a follower of my blog for more than 2 days you can see that I got my makeover. So what do you think? I love the softer colors and the less busyness(is that a word?) of the background. I always found the background to be distracting and I'm the one who picked it out!  I also like the less cutesie banner. For those who don't remember this is what it used to look like:

I really think this new design is more me-hope you like it too!
