Friday Fabulous Find

Hi All! I took a mini vacation the end of last week-beginning of this week but I'm back now. I'll talk about the trip in the next post.

This week's fab find is a website that I love love love. As I've previously stated I'm a huge beauty product junkie. My favorites being samples or GWP(for the non-junkies out there gwp=gift with purchase). When I hear one of my favorite brands is having a GWP promotion I become a giddy idiot. Well apparently I'm not the only one like me out there. I'm not exactly sure how I ended up there but I found a site where a woman searches the enternet and finds & lists all the current GWP promos currently going on. Her name is Lisa and her site is http://www.gwpaddict.com/ .
I subscribe to her newsletter so I'm always in the know on where to get my goodies. One of my favorite things about her site is she lists stores/sites that I've never heard of before and thus giving me even more places to shop instead of my usual stops. If little bottles of skin cream and mascara get your heart a pumpin' I recommend you also sign up for her newsletter.

Newest Re-do

My new favorite thing to do is to find furniture and accessories that need a make-over and give 'em one. Lets get something straight here though-I'm really not very good at it yet. If it wasn't for the makeover blogs I follow I would have never even thought about redoing some of the things I have.So don't expect to find any master pieces here just a few cute new additions to my home.

That being said here's my newest redo

I needed a new workbench for my studio and this table was just the size I was looking for. Loved that it had the rattan drawers. I got it at a yard sale for $5.00
Don't you love the my little pony drop cloth.

After 3 coats of black gloss spray paint it now looks like this

I had originally used a lacquer paint on it hoping would give it a slick shiny look.Big mistake. The wood sucked it up in certain places and left it dull while it left it super shiny in others. I was able to wipe alot of it off and start again with just a basic black.

I had some leftover aqua paint from another project and  sprayed the drawers that color.

The top already had wormholes and  dents which I just loved-adds character to an otherwise functional but bland table.

Total cost for project $11.00

Thursday's Three

Looking back on previous posts I realized that I blab about this and that but tell very little about me personally so for today's three I thought I'd tell you some random this about me

  • I'm a fountain of useless information.I'm known for it among friends and family. So much so that they will call me first before looking something up on the internet.Won't get me far in life but I do kick butt when watching Jeopardy or playing trivia pursuit.

  • I'm tiny-barely 5" tall I also have the figure of a 12 year old boy. My 12 year old looks me in the eyes and my 8 year old can now wear my shoes. I usually buy my jeans in the kids department.Saves money but I prefer big girl clothes.I also find that my taller friends get treated with more respect.

  • I love all things royal-not just the more famous British royals but all the royals across the pond.Have followed there lives for as long as I can remember but I'm pretty sure it started with the Charles & Diana wedding. Sophia refers to me as a "Princess Diana freak" I prefer to think of myself as a enthusiastic observer.

So now you know a little bit about me. I wouldn't blame you if stopped following my blog!

I finally completed the lamps

Do you remember a few weeks ago I posted a picture of Sophia's completed lamps?

I loved the way the bases turned out but wasn't crazy about the shades. I asked for ideas on what to do to jazz them up and Emily from  Decorchick recommend I make rosettes and even had the simplest tutorial to follow.

Emily has an amazing blog and it's always one of my daily stalks reads. She's super friendly and has wonderful ideas.Definitely inspires me to give objects I normally would pass over a second look. You should swing by and take a look at some of her terrific projects.

Anyhow I took her advise and look at just how cute the lamps turned out

The rosette were definitely the finishing touch the lamps needed.

My cousin Michele had given me beautiful curtains last year that she no longer was using and I knew when we finally re-did Sophia's room they would be just perfect. She gave me 4 panels but I only needed three so I used the extra panel to make the rosettes. I even had enough to cover the top of Sophia's computer chair(I'll show you in a later post)

We're just thrilled how they turned out. Thanks for the inspiration Emily!

It's been a while....

Update- No Mono! Hurray!

It's been a while since I last posted and boy have I missed it. Last week Sophia was really sick. She started with a fever of 104.2 last Monday morning and it just didn't stop until Friday. It wasn't continually that high but it did reach 104~104.8 several times. We went to the doctor Tuesday and was told she didn't have strep but had white"muck" on her tonsils and looked like she had tonsillitis.Went back on Thursday and still had the muck but now her glands were swollen.Again no strep but this time but because this fever just refused to leave her Dr. wanted blood work done because it could be mononucleosis. Friday we went for blood work(her first time and what a trouper-not one tear!) Her Dr.called Saturday morning and said her white blood and liver counts were normal  but until the mono test comes back she can't definitively say she doesn't have it. She hasn't have a fever since Friday morning but does still have some fatigue.

When Sophia is sick I'm not allowed to leave her side.Ever.She flips out if I'm out of her site for even a few minutes so I had to try and get as much work done as I could from my bedroom. I don't have a laptop so when she would fall asleep I would run downstairs and hop and the computer for a few minutes, send out orders, try to get a little cleaning done and then dash back before I got busted.

While all this was going on Gabriella was just awesome. No complaining that Sophia was getting so much attention, being dragged back and forth to the Dr and being trapped in the house for a week. To make matter worse Friday was her birthday. Fortunately for me I had planned a celebration out of the house so I didn't really have to do much but show up and pay up.Unfortunately with Soph being so sick I wasn't going to be able to be there. We tried to convince her to hang out with daddy for a couple of hours so I could go but she was not hearing it. John ended up having to take Gabby and 4 of her Friends to the movies and dinner.
Gabby didn't care who took her just as long as she got there.

So now that Sophia is feeling better and Gabriella's birthday celebrations are over things should be back to normal this week.Hopefully

Thursday's Three

This post will be a quickie:

Why I love Where I Live

  1. I live only 50 miles from NYC- one of the best cities in the world. Little over an hour by train.

  2. I live approx.40 miles from the Hamptons-summer playground to the rich & famous and home to world famous beaches.

  3. I have the best of both worlds with the weather-snow in winter and beautiful summers
