Friday's Fabulous Find

I don't know about you but the winter is brutal on my skin. I get extremely dry and flaky. And the itching is enough to drive me insane. I have even woken up with bruises on my legs from where I was scratching my legs in my sleep. Nothing really worked until I found this

They advertise it as good for itchy skin during pregnancy but it figured I'd give it a try. It is incredible. Just a few sprays is all it takes and it leaves behind a subtle cocoa smell.Available at drugstores and at $5.09 for 1fl.oz

Today Is CPSIA Blogging Day

Today is CPSIA Blogging Day. Another big push to get the laws changed and prevent thousands of small business owners — artists and crafters making beautiful handmade items for children — from going under. Bloggers across the country are posting today about this important issue.
So, what can we do?
First, learn everything you can about the CPSIA. Here and Here are really good places to start. (Please take a moment to check both of those links. They are certainly worth your time!)
Next, make your voice heard! There is an ACTION KIT made by the etsy administration that contains sample letters you can use to contact all the pertinent representatives. Do not be afraid to contact your representatives. They must become aware of the impact the CPSIA could have on thousands, if not millions, of mom-run businesses.
Then, help spread the word! Put up a post today about CPSIA Blogging Day. Send an email to all of your friends. Tell your best friend or your sister when they call. Shoot a text message to the moms in your local playgroup. Tweet your heart out about it.
So many companies that we here at Buy By Mom love to feature and support will be affected by this new law. In most of the cases, the testing fees required will put these small businesses and WAHMs in bankruptcy and/or force them to close their doors forever.
I don’t want to imagine a world without etsy, ebay, or WAHMs who use their amazing talents to make wonderful items for children. I want to be able to continue to support *all* WAHMs and their businesses.
Please help spread the word about the CPSIA. Every day I am shocked at the number of people who don’t know about the CPSIA or don’t think it’s any big deal. This is a big deal. Something must be done to change this law. Take a moment to read up about it, and then do something. It won’t take but a moment. Let’s unite together and make our voices be heard!

Friday's Fabulous Find

I'm really busy with orders today so I'm re-cycling a previously posted find. I still use & love this everyday

OK- I admit it. I am a skin care product junkie. I love to try lotions, serums, eye creams you name it-as long as it is a sample & don't have to pay for it. But every once in a while I try something that I absolutely cannot live without. Well here is my newest must have. It's is Clinique's Turnaround Concentrate Visible Skin Renewer. This product is amazing. I tried it from a magazine sample and ran to the store the next day to buy it. I normally have dry flaky skin in the winter with large visible pores. After using the product for 1 week my skin is noticeably smoother, even toned and the pores are definitely less defined. Even those adorable crows appear smaller. Not only that but my face is so incredibly soft. It completely absorbs-never feels greasy. My makeup foundation looks so much better too.
At $39.50 for 1.0 oz isn't exactly cheap but it only takes two pumps per application so a little goes a long way. Available at Clinique counters or

I need your help

I had been planning to update my blog by talking about the holidays, the kids my birthday, blah, blah, blah but I have something much more important to rant about. For those of you who don't know the CPSIA(consumer product safety improvement act)as of Feb.10,2009 is basically putting small handcrafting businesses like mine out of business. In a nutshell if you sell a product for a child 12 and under it has to be lead tested. No matter what it is made from-it doesn't have to have a drop of paint on it-it has to be tested. To test each item is around $70.Being that my items start at $2.50-it's not gonna happen. But wait it gets even better than that! Lets say I want to sell a boutique bows-each color ribbon would have to be tested individually along with the clip it's attached it,centerpiece etc. Doing you see where I'm going with this? This legislation is to protect our children from toys from China which are high in lead. Unfortunately small businesses like mine or on e-bay,etsy and other internet marketplaces are screwed. It's not just hairbows its baby clothes, bibs, diaperbags, toys, jewelry and such.
I am all for increasing regulations on imported items but this is going to effect me and tons like me. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do but if this legislation doesn't change I am gong to have to stop selling my bows(which not only will effect me economically but it will break my heart)and little girl bracelets.
This will be devastating to our already on life support economy
Now for the help part where you can help.. if you follow this link:
Please get as many people as you can to sign.
You can sign a petition to block this legislation or at the very least amend it.
Take a look at Trisha from She really explains it much much better than I did in her video blog.
