How is this ok?

My mother calls me the other day to tell me about a conversation she had with Sophia my 2nd grader. Sophia asked my mother who she voted for in the election and after my mother told her Sophia replied very matter of factly that "Obama kills babies" when asked where she heard that she said in school. Needless to say I was disturbed to hear that. When Sophia came home from school I asked her about it. Apparently one of her classmates had been spreading the word in class. Did I mention she's 2nd grade? She's 7 years old. 7 year old children take things literally. Now my child and her friends think that our next president will be showing up in our town to kill all the babies. How is it ok for a parent to describe someone who will be the topic of many discussions in class in such a graphic and horrific manner? Do they want to comfort my child when she is terrified that her friend's sister will soon be gone? I am all for freedom of speak when it's done responsibly and not done to instill fear in a child. Oh and when the parents were called to be notified what had occurred that didn't feel the need to returned to the call. I guess they don't feel the need to stand behind the words that had such an impact on such little minds.

Changes at Its All About The Jewels

Things might look off at Its All About The Jewels for a few days. I'm changing my hosts and it's going to take a few days to get everything back to normal

My Fashion Show Story

So you know by now I had been working like a mad woman making new jewelry for the fashion show. I had at least 6 new pieces and I was very excited about having them modeled. Wouldn't you know it but the Thursday before the show I started to feel very run down(no surprise there) and my throat started to really hurt. By the morning I couldn't swallow and I had a 102 degree fever. Sure enough I had a case of strep so bad that the doctor put me on vicodin to ease the pain. The last time I was on vicodin I just had a person cut out of my stomach. I figured I'd rest all weekend(of course easier said then done) and go to the show Monday night. By Monday I was feeling slightly better and being that I had been on antibiotics and no longer contagious I would go to then fashion show. So I piled on enough makeup to make a drag queen blush so I wouldn't look too much like the walking dead and off I went. My friend Lori drove so I sat there blowing my nose sounding like a very sick goose and cursing that all the work I had done covering up my bright red nose was being wiped off with each honk. I was there for a little while when feeling really crappy. Cold sweats, pounding headache and everyone started to sound like Charlie Brown's teacher. I needed to go. So I called John to come get me and he was not too pleased even though it was only 8:30 and I was 10 minutes away. He even pretended to not even know where I was even though we had been there together several times. Finally he shows up and he and the girls are in in their pj's which I'm sure was for dramatic purposes only. So by 9:00 I was in my bed throwing myself a pity party. I didn't get to see my jewelry modeled(probably the only chance I would get) but at least I won a gift certificate for brunch.Oh Well!

Friday Fabulous Find

This week's find is not an item but a show. I recently stumbled across a show called Whatever,Martha on the fine living network. This show is just hilarious. On it Martha Stewart's daughter Alexis and her friend Jennifer watch old segments of her shows and basically tear them to shreds. Alexis also gives you the insiders view of what really happened on some of the episodes and what Martha was like as a mother.Whether you love Martha Stewart or just love to hate her you'll enjoy this 1/2 hour show. I'm completely addicted. Check your local listing for times.

Big Sale at Its All About....

From now until December 1st. EVERYTHING!! at Its All About The Jewels is on sale. This is a great time time get holiday shopping done,a great piece of jewelry for the holiday parties or a unique teacher's gift. Don't miss this opportunity because I almost never do a total site sale! As always I offer free shipping and gift wrapping.

Somebody stop me

Normally I don't eat tons of crap. I do allow myself a treat now & then and always in moderation but something happens to my brain right after Halloween. I become this crazed candy eating monster. God help you if you get between me and the candy bowl. Of course this year Halloween hits right when I'm PMS-ing which means this year I have no choice but to eat twice as much as my normal intake. Last night I ate- at 11:30 mind you- 2 peanut butter cups, a take five, payday, and 2 chocolate coated dipper cookies from Trader Joes.Somebody needs to stop me because obviously I can't do it myself. Take away the bowl of temptation before I eat myself into a new jeans size.Just do it carefully because if I see you I will hurt you-badly.

Friday Fabulous Find

Happy Halloween! I hope everyone is having a great time and not eating enough candy to put you in a sugar coma. Today's fab find is a business that a couple of my friends started some time ago. It's called Glitter Girls Glam Parties. What they do is come to your home and do a makeover party for your little girls. Just like the store that rhymes with "bibby boo" but you don't have to drag a bunch of kids to the mall,be jammed packed in a very tiny space with music loud enough to cause your ears to bleed or spend a large chunk of your life's savings. Best yet both the Christines that own the business are licenced beauticians with more than 20 years experience between them so your daughter will be worked on by professionals not a 16 year old who was working in the food court a week ago. I actually had them do Gabriella's 10 birthday and the kids had a blast. My Gabby is definitely not a fu-fu girl so she did the radical rock star makeover and loved it. One of my favorite things was the even when the girls were in full makeover mode they still looked like little girls not drag queens in training like they do at the before mentioned place. They have their hair, nails and make-up done,do a fun craft and get to pick great take aways. They are offering a 10% discount on a party if you mention that you saw them on my blog! Make sure to tell your friends. Based on Long Island. Here are some photos from the party.

This is the table with the take-aways

Just another day in the bow factory

I know my postings have been scarce lately but I have been insanely busy making bows. I have an order for over 50 bows with most of them being boutique bows. My boutique bows have four separate layers so needless to say they take a lot of time. After I got through most of the order I received another order from the same customer that is 6 pages long! Yikes! I'll put up a photo when it's completed. In between the orders I've been making new jewelry in fall colors for iaatj. I don't think I mentioned before the PTA at my children's school is having a fashion school at a beautiful catering hall overlooking the Long Island Sound and I am providing all the jewelry for it. I also have Sophia home sick this week with strep. Oh and I also have a upper respiratory and sinus infection with swollen glands so that is definately slowing me down. So that's what has been going on here and why I've been mia lately. I hope to be somewhat caught up by next week but I make no promises. So now that I'm done complaining I have to finish the laundry then get back to the bow factory.

Friday Fabulous Find

Congradulations to last week's winners!

Lori from Long Island,NY

Donna from Jacksonville,Fla.

Krista fom Austin,Tx.

Enjoy you hair jewels!

This week's find is Origins Peace of mind on the spot relief. I love this stuff. I use it whenever I feel like I'm going to lose it. So yes-I use it often! You gently rub a drop on your temples and you actually start to relax. It has a slight tingling sensation and a light pleasant aroma. It doesn't make a headache go away but it does help.Available at Origins for $10.00. Not a bad price for something that lasts a long time. It the lotion doesn't help relieve your stress you can always throw the bottle at whoever is causing the stress in the first place!

Not The Same Old Friday Fabulous Find

Today I decided to do something a bit different for my Friday Find. I found out yesterday that I don't need to have surgery. I've been in a fabulous mood even since and I thought I'd try to put some other people in a fabulous mood too! Instead of reviewing a product I'm giving away a product. The first 3 people to e-mail me at with "friday find" as the subject will win a hair jewel of your choice from my site Drama Queen Bows & Jewels.Good Luck!

Here's a photo of the newest necklace for Its All About The Jewels.I made this was a beautiful antique brass chain and crystal shadow Swarovski crystals. I actually wore this to the Christening of my favorite baby, Peyton this past weekend and received many compliments. It 's a great color for the fall fashions.

Red lights are optional?

Ok-yesterday we decided to take the girls pumpkin picking. So we are sitting at the light in a major intersection when we get the green arrow. Not one,not two,not even three but four friggin' cars run the light! Next intersection 2 more cars in both directions run the light. Next light only one cars runs it but a second car halfway through his decision to run it changes his mind and stops-an entire car lane over the line! When did red lights become optional? Did I just not get the memo? My theory is this-you may runs a light for 3 reasons 1. There is a person in your car about to push a smaller person out of them 2. The person who has been on your bumper for miles will drive right through you if you stop 3. Your ass is literally on fire. Other than that stop at a red light. You'll still get to wherever it is you are rushing to- only if you stop you have a better chance of getting there alive. My husband thinks it's just a New York thing-I disagree. I believe disregard for traffic laws knows no state borders.

Also wanted to mention

A bunch of my linking partners with Its All About The Jewels are offering sales or special promotional products where some of the proceeds from the sale of the items will be donated for breast cancer research. It's worth a look! Click on the link below to get to my links page. Some of the companies are Clinique,Vera Bradley & Origins.

Friday's Fabulous Find

I should start by mentioning that I am a beauty product junkie. Body lotion is my crack. I have have bottles of lotion all over my house so I can get a fix whenever I need one. I know it's a problem but I have no intention to seek treatment. That being said one of my absolute favorite brands is Philosophy. I have loved every item of theirs I have tried. Not only are the products high quality but the company itself is very generous. Today I will discuss 2 of their products which 100% of the sale of these items will go to charity.$20.00
Shower for the cure is a 3-in-one(shower gel, shampoo, bubblebath) super creamy lotion with milk proteins and fruit essence. I love it as a shower gel but I have never used it as a shampoo.100% of the proceeds from the sale of this product will go to the Woman's Cancer Research Fund.

Inner Grace is another 3-in-one shower gel. This one is a favorite of mine. The lovely subtle fragrance lasts for hours. The creamy gel feels incredible on your skin.100% of philosophy's net proceeds from the sale of inner grace, inspired by the life of late Dana Reeve, will be donated to the Christopher and Dana Reeve foundation. $22-$30

I love how these products make me feel both physically and emotionally and I love to support a company who does the right thing and gives back.

Disney Photos

Here are a few photos from our trip to Disney

This was taken before dinner at Cinderella's Castle. The castle was lovely but the food was terrible and because it was a "unique dining experience" it required 2 sit down meal points on the meal plan. So not worth it.

This is the full version of my blog picture. Again sorry about the sunglasses. This is a very rare photo. We are all smiling and looking in the same direction. This almost never happens! This is at Epcot

This is John & Sophia at Hollywood studios. We are waiting there for my cousin Susan and her family. Neither her kids nor mine knew that the others would be there and were extremely surprised! I have to add that he is not happy that I am putting up this photo and is giving me grief this very moment. Too bad-my blog my rules. So suck it up pal!

This is all the kids & the big cheese at the Not so scary Halloween Party. It's a ticketed event at the Magic Kingdom. If you get the chance to go~do it! It was tons of fun. It runs from 7pm-12 am.The kids trick-or-treated,they saw tons of characters and the parade was amazing. Best yet they limit the amount of tickets to the party so the park is empty. We literally walked on every ride.

I know I missed Friday's Fab find last week but I have a good excuse. I am crazy busy with orders. I received an order for 50 boutique bows. For those of you who don't know my bows each boutique bow has 4 separate layers to them.Needless to say between that order , jewelry orders and just life in general I swamped. I promise this Friday I'll do 2 reviews. On a different note I finally put up a photo of me. I have sunglasses on but that's the best it gets!

Check Your Knockers!

I don't like to get preachy and I promise I won't do it much but this is a very important topic to me. As you know October is breast cancer awareness month. During the month I donate 50% of the proceeds from the sales of everything pink on both my sites. I also made a special necklace named appropriately "Hope" for IAATJ that I will donate 80% off the proceeds from the sales of it to the Susan G Komen Foundation. So please spread to word. The more I sell the more I can donate!

If you haven't had a mammography and you are over 35 get it done! It's not a big deal and it's a lifesaver. I myself have had 5 masses biopsied in the last 3 years-2 removed,2 core biopsied & 1 needle biopsy. Fortunately all have been benign But I know woman who have not been so lucky. 182,460 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in American women in 2008 alone Breast cancer doesn't care if you are young or old, rich or poor, married with kids and happily single. Make sure to give your girls, knockers, boobs or whatever you call them a monthly self exam. If you find something SEE A DOCTOR!! Early detection is the best defense.Don't become a statistic.
I'll get off my soapbox now...

We're Baack!

The trip to Disney was great! Up until our very last day there was little to no humidity and bright blue skies. We had the best time but I am totally exhausted and happy to be home. I'll put up for photos soon but I have much more important issues to discuss first.

Friday's Fabulous Find

Ok- here is this week's I can't live without product. It's the Garnier Nutritioniste Anti-puff eye roller. It rolls on a clear cooling gel that is very soothing. I really didn't give it too much hope because I always have puffy eyes with dark circles even on the rare occasions I get enough sleep. Even if I don't have a drop of other makeup on I will always have cover-up under my eyes to avoid small children will running away in fear. However- after using this product for 2 weeks I noticed a difference. I'm not as puffy(at least my eyes aren't) and the dark circle though not gone are definitely lighter. I bought mine at Walmart for around $10.00 and every time I go to purchase another one they are sold out. If you happen to see one grab it!

Friday's Fabulous Finds

Before I give do my first review I want it to be known that I absolutely do not get any kind of compensation for my reviews be it product samples or cold hard cash.It is just my opinion on a product that has somehow enriched my life. So now that I got that out of the way onto the review.

Today I am reviewing one of my absolutely favorite hair products. It's called Glossing Creme by Frederic Fekkai and I have no idea how I survived before I found this stuff. Dramatic I know but I really, really love it!

This multi-talented, leave-in conditioner does it all: Infuses hair with lasting shine, protects from heat styling, fights frizz, and leaves your locks looking sleek and polished. I use this stuff everyday and it is great for " next day I have absolutely no time for a shower hair". It sells for $20-$27 but being that you really only use a pea sized drop it lasts a long time. I usually get it at Sephora online so I can get some free samples too. It is also at some Bath & Body Works stores.

A few answered questions

I figured it was about time I answered some questions I'm getting so here goes...

1. Dawn how come you don't have a photo of you on your blog?

Honestly I don't have any photos of me to put up. I am notoriously camera shy and I'm usually the one taking the photos. I promise that on my upcoming vacation I will have my photo taken.I won't like it but I'll do it. In the mean time for those who don't already know me I'm about 5'7" with long flowing blond hair, striking sharp blue eyes and a porn star's body. For those who do know me just shut up and let me have my moment!

2. When did you start making bows and why?

Great question! I started about 5 years ago when I had purchased a bow to match a dress for my younger daughter Sophia. It was a very pretty but plain bow and it cost me $9.00 plus shipping. It was then I decided to give it a try. After many, many, many unsuccessful attempts I finally made a few decent bows. One day at Sophia's preschool a mom (who has ended up being one of my dearest friends Lori Jones)mentioned that she loved how Soph's bow matched her Gymboree outfit and where did I get it. When I told her I made it she suggested I sell them. So it did. I started in a small boutique, then e-bay then I decided to open my own site and I've never looked back!

3. What about the jewelry?
I found jewelry making to be a natural transition from the bows. Don't get me wrong I love making the bows and clips but I wanted to do something different and so came the second site.

4.Where do you get the names for your jewelry?
I name the jewelry after women I love and admire.

5.So where are the products reviews and contests you promised us?
OK-back off already! I will be doing at least one product review a week starting today and if I tell you when a contest is coming that won't be any fun! If anyone knows of a great product for me to review let me know. I really would love to do reviews for other mom owned businesses.

I hope this has answered some of your questions and if you have anymore drop me a line at:

New on Its All About The Jewels

I've been so busy adding new items to DQB&J that I haven't added to IAATJ for a bit. I did this necklace last month but I'm just adding it now.

This is definitely one of my favorites. It's made with antiqued brass and a deep garnet crystals. The center piece reminding of a garden gate you would see in a Merchant & Ivory film. The stones are such a beautiful color but no mater how hard I tried I just couldn't get the color. Photography is definitely not one of my strong points. I had it on the other day an received lots of compliments on it.

Hi All!

I also added a new bracelet to the Happy Birthday line. This one is personalized and is available in crystal, crystal pearls or freshwater pearls. Again this was a customer suggestion. Thanks Lori!

New Bracelets

I've been very busy making new bracelets for DQB&J today. Not that I mind, it was way too hot to be anywhere but in front of the air conditioner!

Friday, July 18, 2008

Welcome to the beginning. For those who don't know me my name is Dawn and I am the owner and the sole designer for Drama Queen Bows & Jewels & Its all About the Jewels.I absolutely love what I do but I find myself spending far too much time on the computer and not enough time dong what I truly enjoy-creating. I figured setting up a forum for me to comunicate with my customers from both sites instead of constantly going back and forth between them might save me some time.

I will also be using this site to showcase my newest items, hold contests and announce sales(some exculsive for my blog subscribers).

Now and then I will be intruducing some sites I love, products I can't live without and just some basic chatting. I hope you enjoy your visit here and I eagerly await hearing from you!
